Escalating Tensions in Deir ez-Zor Governorate Over SDF Commander's Arrest
Clashes have erupted in Deir ez-Zor Governorate since last Sunday due to the arrest of SDF Commander Ahmed Al-Khabil, "Abu Khawla," in Hasakah. The conflict escalated near the Koniko gas field in eastern Deir ez-Zor, housing a U.S.-led coalition base.

U.S. Central Command (Centcom) closely monitors events in northeastern Syria and continues cooperation with the SDF to ensure ISIS's lasting defeat.
The Deir ez-Zor Military Council, part of the SDF, maintains security in areas reclaimed from ISIS.
The U.S.-backed SDF, led by the Kurdish People's Protection Units, occupies the eastern Euphrates River bank, dividing Deir ez-Zor Governorate.
To ease Arab-Kurdish tensions, the Kurdish Autonomous Administration and the SDF manage areas, including Arab-majority regions, through local civil and military councils.
