An 18-year-old gunman unleashed a horrific shooting spree in Farmington, New Mexico, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and leaving nine others wounded, including two police officers. The authorities confirmed that the assailant was eventually killed during a confrontation with four brave police officers who successfully halted the rampage.

Deputy Police Chief Barrick Krum provided details during a press conference, stating that the victims included three civilians, while the injured individuals comprised the two wounded officers and seven others. The officers were promptly transported to the hospital, and their condition is reported to be stable, as per the information provided by the French Press Agency.

Farmington, a town with a population of approximately 50,000 residents, is situated around 320 km away from Santa Fe, the capital of the border state. Krum described the scene encountered by the responding officers as chaotic, with the shooter actively firing in a residential neighborhood.

The motives behind the attack remain unknown, and authorities have launched an investigation to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

As a result of the shooting, Farmington schools initially implemented temporary closures. However, the closure orders were later lifted, with school officials assuring the community that all students and staff members were safe.

This unsettling event adds to the distressing tally of mass shootings in the United States, with over 215 incidents recorded this year, as reported by the Armed Violence Archive.
